Speaking on the Here We Go Podcast, Fabrizio Romano has shared the exact moment that Tottenham decided they had to part ways with Jose Mourinho.
Mourinho was of course sacked on Monday, but according to Romano, his fate was sealed a number of weeks ago.
Indeed, the journalist claims that Spurs decided that Mourinho’s time was up after their 3-0 loss to Dinamo Zagreb in the Europa League.
“It was surprising with the timing, sure, but they were already planning to sack Jose at the end of the season, they made the decision after the match against Dinamo Zagreb in the Europa League that it was time for a change. They took some time because of the Premier League situation, but this is the situation with Mourinho and Tottenham will be going for a new manager next season,” Romano said.
This is certainly interesting to hear.
If Spurs had decided after the Zagreb game, why was he not sacked there and then?
The idea of keeping him in until the end of the season would have made a bit more sense, but to sack him on a Monday before the biggest game of your season doesn’t seem to add up.
Of course, we probably won’t find out exactly what led to Mourinho’s sacking, but if Romano is right, this had been a decision that was coming for quite some time.
