Tottenham fans have taken to Twitter to react after an 11-second clip of Érik Lamela facing Wolfsberger emerged on Twitter after the Europa League win.
The footage in question shows what one fan describes as an ‘unnecessary’ act of play, in which the 28-year-old charges down an opponent.
In the 89th minute, Wolfsberger’s Gustav Henriksson has the ball near the corner flag, where he then takes a touch and looks up to pass the ball.
He’s not really showing much urgency, perhaps given the 4-1 scoreline, but that doesn’t stop Lamela lunging in with a slide tackle to stop him playing out from the back.
You would think the Argentina international was partaking in the World Cup final given the effort on show, which contrasts the laid back nature of the final stages of Tottenham’s 4-1 win.
Nevertheless, it makes for a funny piece of footage – one supporter even said it made them laugh out loud.

Despite the humour in the clip, it is good to see such passion and commitment from Lamela.
It shows that, regardless of Tottenham holding a three-goal lead, he doesn’t want to show any complacency or give the opponents even a shred of hope.

In our view, Jose Mourinho will have loved the South American’s tackle in the 89th minute.
Let’s see what some other Tottenham fans have been saying about the 11-second footage…
