Speaking in his pre-match press conference, Jurgen Klopp has been discussing Caoimhin Kelleher after yet another brilliant performance in the Carabao Cup.
Kelleher hasn’t played too much football this season, but every time he’s been called upon, he’s been fantastic.
Kelleher has had notable good performances in the Carabao Cup against Leicester and now Arsenal, and Klopp has had plenty of praise for him ahead of the Reds’ game against Crystal Palace.
What’s Klopp said about Kelleher?
The Liverpool boss was full of praise for the Irishman.
“He is the number two at Liverpool, I don’t think he can be rated much higher at the age he is. We are more than happy with him. This is a John Achterberg project, and so there were a lot of steps to go through. When I came here he was a skinny boy from Ireland standing in a big goal, and it was like ‘ok it could take a while’, but since then, he’s made incredible steps and he’s now a top-class goalie, definitely. He’s calm like you cannot believe, he’s good with the ball and he makes incredible saves,” Klopp said.

Credit to Achterberg
As much credit as Jurgen Klopp gets for improving the likes of Mohamed Salah, Andy Robertson, Diogo Jota and Sadio Mane, you very rarely hear John Achterberg getting praise for his work with the goalkeepers.
As Klopp says, Kelleher was Achterberg’s project, and it’s fair to say that he’s done a brilliant job with the 23-year-old.
The young goalkeeper may be Liverpool’s number two right now, but if he keeps improving, it may not be long before he’s challenging Alisson for the top spot.
