If Emerson Hyndman has emphatically solved Rangers’ creative problems with four goals in eight games since arriving on loan from Bournemouth in January, the fact that his temporary stay will end in less than two months means Pedro Caixinha is already facing the first major question of his Rangers reign.
Fortunately for Rangers, the harsh, results-driven nature of the Premier League means a raft of talented young players are not getting the opportunities their talent and potential warrants.
Chances are, Hyndman will return to the Vitality Stadium this summer with his first-team prospects enhanced under Eddie Howe after a string of fine performances north of the border. A short-term spell can benefit both parties.
And, according to All Nigeria Soccer, Liverpool are desperate for talented attacker Ovie Ejaria to cut his teeth elsewhere before fighting for a first-team spot at Anfield. The publication claims that Leeds United were offered the chance to sign the 19-year-old in January, only for a poorly-timed injury to scupper the deal.
However, although the infamously trusting Klopp has fielded Ejaria eight times this season, Liverpool are hardly lacking in creative talent and the teenager still seems some way off regular first-team football.
And, if they make him available in the summer, Rangers should jump at the chance. A creative and technical midfielder with excellent footwork and the ability to pick a pass, Ejaria could replicate Hyndman’s influence in the attacking third.
Utilised by Jurgen Klopp in Liverpool’s International Champions Cup campaign last summer, Ejaria even stood out in a clash with Chelsea, his balance and vision clear to see from kick-off. He was hardly fazed by the occasion – something that should hand him in good stead in front of 50,000 at Ibrox.
Therefore, a short-term move could be the making of Ejaria – and it could soften the blow of Hyndman’s exit too.
