Tottenham Hotspur continue to be linked with Aston Villa’s Jack Grealish.

Tottenham Hotspur have yet to make a new signing this summer, but manager Mauricio Pochettino does appear to be keen on bringing new faces to North London.

Fans want big signings given that the club are moving into their new stadium and once again have Champions League football to call upon, but one of the strongest links so far has been with a Championship star.

The Telegraph recently reported that Tottenham want to bring in Aston Villa playmaker Jack Grealish, with chairman Daniel Levy willing to offer £15million for the attacking midfielder.

Villa, however, are allegedly looking for £40million for Grealish despite their financial woes, having seen him hit three goals and six assists last season – but one recent deal shows that Spurs shouldn’t be rushing to meet that demand.

Leicester City swooped last week to sign Norwich City playmaker James Maddison, paying around £22million (Sky Sports) to secure his signature after a fine season in the Championship.

Maddison hit a stunning 14 goals and eight assists from midfield last term, a far superior record to Grealish, and has been seen as a sensible investment from Leicester – yet Villa, whose financial problems have been well documented over the last month, want almost double the price for Grealish.

James Maddison of Norwich City looks on during the Sky Bet Championship match between Ipswich Town and Norwich City at Portman Road on October 22, 2017 in Ipswich, England.

Maddison is a year younger than Grealish, had a much better record in the Championship and still had three years left on his Norwich deal, meaning an expiring contract wasn’t the reason for his value being set at £22million.

With that in mind, Tottenham’s £15million valuation of Grealish shouldn’t really be too far off base, and Levy shouldn’t be looking to pay £40million under any circumstances having seen Maddison – an arguably better player than Grealish in the second tier last season – go for £22million just last week.
