Kieran Trippier told the Times that James Maddison’s free-kick taking ability is one of the best in the world.
Maddison is already one of the best free-kick takers in Premier League history
At present, the Leicester City talisman has scored an impressive 8 free-kicks since making his Premier League debut in 2018.
For context, the England international needs to score 1 more free-kick to equal Frank Lampard’s tally, and 4 more to go level with the one and only Thierry Henry.
At just 25 years of age, the Coventry-born No.10 is well on course to equal, or even perhaps surpass David Beckham’s all-time record of 18 in the English top-flight.
Just this season alone, Maddison showcased two examples of his incredible proficiency from free-kick situations.
In the Foxes’ 2-1 defeat against Southampton, the Englishman managed to beat Gavin Bazunu from a tight angle to level the scores for his side.
However, it was in Leicester’s 4-0 drubbing of Nottingham Forest where the in-form No.10 took one of his best-ever free-kicks, bending the ball past the wall as it slotted right in the top corner.

Trippier showers praise on Maddison for his free-kicks
In an interview with the Times, Kieran Trippier lauded his Three Lions’ teammate’s stupendous free-kick taking ability, saying, “He’s probably one of the best in the world [at taking free-kicks], Madders [Maddison].”
The Newcastle captain continued, “If we’re both playing and he wants a free-kick, we’ll just have to do rock, paper, scissors on the pitch!”
Keeping in that Trippier is one of the most deadly free-kick takers in the Premier League, this is some high praise for Maddison.
