Rio Ferdinand has urged Newcastle to try and sign West Ham’s Declan Rice, Manchester City’s Raheem Sterling and Manchester United’s Jesse Lingard.
The former defender made it clear that he would make a ‘made couple of signings’ for Newcastle after their takeover, as he told his own YouTube channel.
Rice is a key player for West Ham, who are in Europe, and it would cause quite a stir if he moved to St James’ Park.
For Sterling, his game time has reduced at the Etihad, and it would be some statement if they could land the £49 million speedster (BBC Sport), but would he want to leave Champions League football for no Europe at all? Probably not.
As for Lingard, he is a back-up player at Old Trafford and is perhaps the most realistic out of all the three.
Either way, Ferdinand made it clear that he would knock on those players doors to see what they are all about and whether or not they would want to sign.
“I would be going to try and make a mad couple of signings,” said Ferdinand. “Like huge.
“Raheem Sterling’s not playing regular. I would go and ask him the question. I would go and ask Declan Rice. What’s going on?
“Them two would be the first two on my list. And I will go all out to get them. Then I would go all out to get Jesse Lingard.”

Given that Newcastle are in the relegation zone, and will be battling near the bottom during these next few months, that stance doesn’t help their cause.
But it does seem as though Newcastle supporters are waiting for that statement move.
Will it come with the capture of a big-name player? Or manager? The latter seems more realistic.
Either way, if you are a Newcastle fan then these certainly are fun times and a ride they have been waiting to get on for a long while now.
