Speaking on The Overlap, Alan Shearer has picked Faustino Asprilla over current Newcastle United star Allan Saint-Maximin.
Shearer was speaking to Gary Neville and he was tasked with answering 30 quickfire questions.
As you can imagine, most of the questions were football-related and centred around Newcastle United.
Shearer was asked to compare two of the most enigmatic players we’ve ever seen at St James’ Park, Asprilla and Saint-Maximin.
What’s been said?
Shearer and Neville were chatting all things Newcastle.
“Allan Saint-Maximin or Tino Asprilla?” Neville asked.
Interestingly, Shearer picked his old teammate over the Frenchman.
“Ah, Tino, he was as mad as a hatter, but he had some ability,” Shearer said.

Imagine them in the same team
Could you imagine Saint-Maximin and Asprilla in the same Newcastle team?
We have no idea whether or not they’d be an effective partnership, but they’d certainly be entertaining to say the least.
Saint-Maximin is one of the trickiest and most unpredictable players the Premier League has ever seen, while Asprilla was in a similar mould.
Perhaps the Colombian gets the edge over Saint-Maximin in Shearer’s view because he was more effective as a goalscorer. After all, this is a player who once netted a hat-trick against Barcelona for Newcastle.
Newcastle have had some brilliant players over the years, but when all is said and done, Asprilla and Saint-Maximin will undoubtedly go down as two of the most memorable.
