Celtic are looking to sign Charly Musonda from Chelsea so will that leave the door open for Sheffield United to land Gary Mackay-Steven?

Brendan Rodgers seems to have heavily hinted that Celtic are closing in on a deal to sign Charly Musonda from Chelsea in the near future.

The Scottish champions are rumoured by Goal to be making a £5m bid for the 20-year-old and Rodgers appeared to be describing the winger when he spoke about the player he was targeting.

“Celtic have been great in trying to make it happen and, if we can close the deal out, it will be a high level of quality,” the Northern Irishman said.

“He is young but is a big talent who has got experience. It’s good money that will be spent on him.

“The player I’m talking about is of a substantial pedigree and quality.”

If as expected the Bhoys do sign Musonda then will that give Sheffield United the green light to renew their own pursuit of Gary Mackay-Steven?

The Daily Record reported in June that the Blades had made an approach to try and sign Mackay-Steven, although could not meet Celtic’s asking price.

However, they were considering a loan move for the 26-year-old with the view to making the switch permanent in the future.

Yet with Jonny Hayes having already arrived at Parkhead from Aberdeen and an apparent deal for Musonda on the cards, perhaps this would be the perfect time for United to attract Mackay-Steven to England.
