Sheffield Wednesday have been credited with interest in one Peterborough United player this summer.

The owner of a rumoured Sheffield Wednesday target has responded when asked if the Owls have shown interest in any of his players.

One Wednesday supporter approached the Peterborough United chief Darragh MacAnthony on Twitter, amid reports linking the Championship side with the Posh striker Jack Marriott (Sky Sports).

Marriott is one of several Peterborough players said to have attracted higher division interest, along with wingers Marcus Maddison and Gwion Edwards.

But MacAnthony said:

It has been reported that Marriott could cost in excess of £5 million after a 33-goal first season at London Road.

And with Sheffield Wednesday’s transfer plans thought to be burdened by the Football League’s financial fair play regulations, it is unlikely that the Owls could afford to sign Marriott anyway.

Both clubs are set to learn at 9am on Thursday when and where next season’s fixtures will occur.
