Alexandre Lacazette’s former side Olympique Lyon will suffer a huge blow if Arsenal beat Chelsea in the final of the Europa League.

Arsenal’s only route to the Champions League next season will be through a victory against London rivals Chelsea in the final of the Europa League.

Alexandre Lacazette has been one of the biggest reasons why the Gunners are where they are in the competition but the Frenchman could break a few hearts if he continues his fine form.

Lacazette’s former side Lyon finished third in Ligue 1 this season which will force them to endure a daunting qualifying campaign to make it into the group stages of the Champions League. Lyon’s season is set to start in the final week of July, about two months before the group stages begin.

However, Les Gones have a slim chance to make it into the group stages directly but it will all depend on their former superstar Alexandre Lacazette and Arsenal.

Arsenal losing the Europa League final to Chelsea will open up a spot in the group stages of the Champions League which will be filled by the third-placed team from UEFA’s fifth-ranked league.

Alexandre Lacazette of Lyon celebrate his goal during the Ligue 1 match between Olympique Lyonnais and OGC Nice at Stade des Lumieres on May 20, 2017 in Decimes, France.

France are ranked fifth behind Spain, England, Italy and Germany which opens the door to the group stages for Lyon, who finished third in the league.

Former Arsenal full-back Sylvinho recently took charge of Lyon but he will be praying for his former side to fail against Chelsea.

Lacazette, who still has a lot of affection for his former side, could have a huge say on his former side’s fate in the Champions League next season and Lyon fans, for once, will be hoping that the Frenchman doesn’t have the best of games.
