Everton may miss out on Lille midfielder Thiago Mendes.

Lyon midfielder Tanguy Ndombele is a top target for Tottenham Hotspur this summer – and Everton may be left annoyed if they get him.
Ndombele’s superb displays for Lyon over the last two years have sparked major interest, and Tottenham have been pursuing him throughout the transfer window.
Football.London now carry quotes from Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas, in which he confirms that Ndombele wants to leave the club for a big move elsewhere.
Intriguingly, Aulas even named the player he wants as a replacement, claiming that Lille star Thiago Mendes will be pursued to take Ndombele’s place if he leaves.
Mendes, 27, has starred for Lille since joining from Sao Paulo in 2017, becoming one of Ligue 1’s finest midfielders during his time with Les Dogues.
Lyon are now seemingly lining up a move for the Brazilian with Tottenham pushing for Ndombele, and Everton may be left empty-handed.

Just last week, Le10 Sport claimed that Everton have sent a new offer to Mendes in an effort to bring him to Goodison Park, having been linked with a move in January to replace Idrissa Gueye.
Gueye stayed, meaning Mendes wasn’t needed in the end, but he’s seemingly remained on Marcel Brands’ radar, either to compete with Gueye or arrive as an insurance policy in case he ends up leaving.
Now though, Mendes could be heading to Lyon because of Tottenham’s Ndombele move, potentially leaving Brands and Everton frustrated again in their pursuit of another midfielder, after hitting problems in their move for Santiago Sosa.
