Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas appears to have quashed rumours linking their star-man Nabil Fekir with a move to Liverpool this summer.
Nabil Fekir is not on the brink of joining Liverpool according to the Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas, who claims that no approach has been made by the Reds and that the player wants to stay in France beyond the summer, via SFR Sport.
The French international has had a sensational season at Parc Olympique Lyonnais, bagging 18 goals and eight assists in 30 Ligue 1 appearances, boosting Lyon to a third-place finish and securing automatic Champions League qualification for next term.
The 24-year-old has been linked with a number of top European clubs since the transfer window opened, and there have been reports that Liverpool had reached an agreement in principle to bring the player to Anfield this summer following a meeting with boss Jurgen Klopp, according to RMC Sport.
However, it seems the reports were preemptive and Lyon have refuted the claims.
“There has been no contact with Liverpool or any other club so we haven’t discussed the future,” Aulas is quoted as saying. “I know that Nabil, now that we have qualified for the Champions’ League, would really like to stay, so we will discuss things calmly.”
While his comments seemed to close the door on a move, Aulas then reopened it admitting “nothing is done,” suggesting a lucrative offer could potentially change their stance on Fekir.
The midfielder is to travel with the French national team to Russia this summer, with his side being touted as one of the tournament favourites.
Should he shine on the biggest stage of all, rumours will only intensify regarding his departure from Ligue 1.
