Rangers have been linked with a move for Livingston striker Lyndon Dykes – but they could now face major competition for his signature.

The Scottish Sun reported this week that Rangers are likely to move on from loanee Florian Kamberi, rather than sign him permanently.

The report stated that Rangers are looking elsewhere for a new striker – and Livingston hitman Dykes is thought to be at the top of the wish list.

Dykes, 24, has impressed at Livingston. He’s notched 12 goals and 10 assists this season, whilst proving to be a nightmare for defenders to handle.

The Australian is tall, aggressive and hard-working, with Celtic defender Christopher Jullien tormented by Dykes on more than one occasion.

The Daily Mail claim that Celtic actually want Dykes now, and will challenge Rangers for his signature. Livingston allegedly value their star man at £2million.

Dykes may be on the move this summer, with an Old Firm move a possibility. Before the Celtic link emerged, departing Motherwell defender Peter Hartley told The Scottish Sun that Dykes is up with Odsonne Edouard as one of the top strikers he faced in Scotland.

Hartley noted that Dykes has a never-say-die attitude, strength, aerial ability, impressive technique and a nose for goals, meaning he would be a ‘great coup’ for Rangers – but Celtic’s interest may now be a threat.

“Edouard’s the best striker I faced with Motherwell. He really is top standard. For his age, I’d be very surprised if he didn’t get a big move,” said Hartley. “But I tell you someone else I feel has got a really good chance of making it big — Lyndon Dykes. He’s got everything a centre-half hates. He doesn’t give up a lost cause, he’s physically strong, he can beat any centre-half in the air, his first touch is quality and he also knows where the back of the net is.”

“Dykes really has got everything and I was always impressed by him. You think you’ve got time on the ball, only for him to come from nowhere and take it off you or block your pass. I found him irritating, but I always appreciated how hard he worked. If Rangers were to get him I’d see that as a great coup because he’s a good, good player. He’d definitely add value,” he added.
