The youngster has been something of a shining light for Sunderland so far.
Sunderland youngster Lynden Gooch has told ESPN that manager David Moyes has told him he is trying to ease the pressure on him this season.
The youngster has been a regular for the Black Cats so far, starting four of their seven games in the league as well as both EFL Cup games.
He has impressed too, putting in several impressive performances despite their winless start to the campaign.
There is a lot of expectation surrounding the young American, with him having been touted as one of the club’s shining lights for the future.
And Gooch says he is confident of developing under Moyes because of his track record with young players, sharing what the Scot has told him.
“I think that’s normal for a young player. You’re not going to be able to play every game,” Gooch told espnfc.co.uk.
“I started four games straight off the bounce. I think that was a surprise, but they manage players well. I think you’ll get burned out if you play every second after making that jump.”
“I’ve got an experienced manager in David Moyes. He knows how to handle young players . . . he said that at times, ‘I have to take pressure off you as well’.”
Gooch will now be hoping he can help his team to start picking up points following the international break.
The Black Cats are without a win so far and have managed to pick up just two points from their first seven games.
That leaves them sitting bottom of the Premier League at this early stage and facing yet another relegation battle.
They have a favourable run of games coming up though, facing several teams around them in the table, starting with Stoke City this weekend.
