Lynden Gooch has not played for Sunderland’s first-team since November 2016.
Sunderland youngster Lynden Gooch has told the Shields Gazette that he is totally frustrated with a lack of first-team action at the Stadium of Light.
Gooch started this season as a prominent member of Sunderland’s line-up, but injury curtailed his progress.
And, ever since he was sidelined, Gooch has been unable to break back into David Moyes’ plans.
Gooch has been fit for well over a month now, but he has not been given a chance to impress.
And the 21-year-old admits that he is growing frustrated at having to watch on from the sidelines.
“From my point of view, I needed minutes to stay sharp in case I am needed for the first team,” Gooch said, after playing in Sunderland’s development side’s most recent match.
“I need more time on the pitch. It’s frustrating not being involved but I have to be ready in case I am called upon.
“We all want to play so we need minutes to stay sharp and make sure we are ready in case there are more injuries or if the manager picks us.”
Gooch largely impressed with his performances in the early stages of the season, but the pressure is on at Sunderland now.
The Black Cats are sat at the bottom of the Premier League table, with their form very poor.
Sunderland are currently six points adrift of safety, with their next match coming against Burnley in two weekends’ time.
