Speaking on the Eleven Sports YouTube channel, Danny Mills has been talking about Kalvin Phillips after the departure of Marcelo Bielsa last week.
The Argentine is no longer the Leeds manager after a poor run of form, and Mills says that Bielsa’s issues weren’t all his fault.
Indeed, the pundit pointed towards a number of injury problems Leeds have had this season, claiming that Kalvin Phillips is the glue of the team and that he’s been sorely missed.
What’s been said?
Mills spoke about Phillips and how much he’s been missed.
“There were no superstars in that team, but this season, there have been extenuating circumstances. Liam Cooper has been out injured. Kalvin Phillips, He has always been the glue in the midfield, he has been in the lynchpin in that midfield ever since Marcelo Bielsa has been there, he’s been missing for a big period of the season,” Mills said.

Vital
Phillips is absolutely vital in this team, and you can see that just through the formation Leeds have played this season.
What was a 4-1-4-1 with Phillips as the quarterback has had to shift into more of a 4-2-3-1 due to the fact Leeds haven’t had a player who can really take control of that role.
The shift in shape affected the whole team, and while there were other issues at play, performances certainly suffered for it.
Phillips has been missed sorely this term, and you have to wonder whether or not the Whites would be in this position if he never went down with an injury.
