Tottenham Hotspur defender Cameron Carter-Vickers has been described as an ‘absolute beast’ by Spurs veteran Jan Vertonghen.

Tottenham Hotspur youngster Cameron Carter-Vickers is believed to be on the radar of a number of Championship sides including Leeds United, West Bromwich Albion, Derby County and Fulham, but Luton Town have all but ruled themselves out of the race for his signature (Dunstable Today).

The 21-year-old United States international has come through the youth ranks at Spurs, playing four first team games for the Lilywhites, but has spent much of the last three years on loan at Sheffield United, Ipswich Town and last season at Swansea City.

According to Teamtalk, “nearly half the Championship” is said to be interested in Carter-Vickers’ services, including the three playoff contenders from last season – Leeds, West Brom and Derby – plus ex-Premier League Fulham, second-tier new-boys Luton and Barnsley, and also Bristol City and Middlesbrough.

In conversation with Dunstable Today, Hatters boss Graeme Jones said of the American ace: “He’s someone I know from my time at West Brom.

“He played for Swansea, in a back three, played left hand side in a back three, played right hand side, played in the middle, he’s adaptable, can play in different positions across the back four or a back five. He’s somebody that I like, (but) I don’t think we’re close to doing a deal at all with Carter.”

With one team effectively saying they are not in the race for Carter-Vickers’ signature, it still leaves plenty of purported competition, and with the window set to shut tomorrow, the remaining teams will need to move fast to secure the services of a player that Spurs veteran Jan Vertonghen called “an absolute beast” three years ago (ESPN).
