Luke Molyneux made two League One appearances under Jack Ross for Sunderland before moving to National League outfit Hartlepool United on loan.

Luke Molyneux has suggested that he would be open to joining Hartlepool United on a permanent basis from Sunderland in the summer, as reported by the Hartlepool Mail.

The Bishop Auckland-born winger made two brief appearances in League One back in August but was then shifted out on loan to North East neighbours Hartlepool until the end of the season.

And it’s fair to say Molyneux has made an impact at Victoria Park, scoring three times and providing another five assists in the National League.

The long-term future of the academy graduate remains uncertain however given that his contract at Sunderland expires at the end of the season. And, speaking to The Hartlepool Mail, he has indicated that he’d be happy to stay at Hartlepool should the opportunity arise as he is loving his time under the former Middlesbrough and Darlington forward Craig Hignett.

“It is up to the people upstairs. I have to see what happens at Sunderland first, really,” Molyneux said when asked what his future holds.

“I have no complaints about being here, I have enjoyed everything since I have arrived and we will just have to see about next season.

“The coaches have been great and so have the players – they have all made sure I have enjoyed every minute of my time here.”

Sunderland are not short of options out wide and Molyneux will only fall further down the pecking order if Lewis Morgan makes his loan deal from Celtic permanent. The Scotland international has started to impress in red and white after a slow start.
