The 21-year-old has impressed since moving to Peterborough from Tottenham on deadline day.
Little over a month into Luke McGee’s loan spell at Peterborough United, the young Tottenham Hotspur keeper is already well aware of the difference between youth team football and life in the first team.
McGhee has been thrust almost immediately into the latter at London Road, having observed the first game of his spell from the substitutes’ bench.
And the number 1 shirt looks to be his for the foreseeable future, after saving not one but two penalty kicks throughout the month of September.
“It’s nice to have the number 1 shirt on your back, but you’ve got to live up to it,” McGee said, as quoted by the Football League Paper, after ousting veteran shot-stopper Mark Tyler.
“It’s been good to get a consistent amount of games under my belt.
“It goes from training every day at Tottenham and trying to improve yourself, to going out and needing the three points because it’s people’s livelihoods on the line. It’s a completely different kind of pressure.”
McGee, who was joined in Cambridgeshire by Tottenham teammate Nathan Oduwa, is yet to make a senior appearance at his parent club, with whom he has been since the age of 16.
However, with Michel Vorm not getting any younger and Paul Lopez only on loan, a productive spell away from White Hart Lane could help him to catch the eye of Mauricio Pochettino.
McGhee’s loan spell runs until the New Year initially, but at this rate is likely to be extended.
