Luke Garbutt, now on loan at Oxford United from Everton, played for Wigan Athletic during the 2016-17 season.
Everton-owned Oxford United defender Luke Garbutt has taken to Twitter to send a message to Wigan Athletic chairman David Sharpe.
Sharpe has announced on his official Twitter page that he will step down as the Wigan chairman once the takeover of the Latics is complete.
According to BBC Sport, Hong Kong-based International Entertainment Corporation are set to takeover Wigan.
Garbutt, who joined League One club Oxford on loan from Premier League side Everton in the summer transfer window, had a loan spell at Wigan during the 2016-17 campaign.
The 25-year-old left-back – who earns £28,000 per week as salary, according to Spotrac.com – has wished Sharpe the best of luck for the future and has thanked him for his contribution to Wigan.
Wigan are 15th in the Championship table at the moment with 20 points from 15 matches, five points behind Derby County, who are currently sixth in the standings and occupy the final playoff spot.
As for Oxford, they are currently fourth from bottom in the League One table.
