Championship duo Leeds United and Middlesbrough are hoping to sign QPR star Luke Freeman in the summer.

Leeds United have found consistency hard to come by since the turn of the year but it could be worse. Just look at Middlesbrough.

Tony Pulis’s side have been in free-fall in 2019, winning just four Championship games to cast their play-off hopes into doubt. While Leeds still have an excellent chance of finishing in the automatic promotion positions, Boro are now just three points above 10th place.

If they continue like this, the North East outfit will soon tumble out of the top six with a whole host of clubs breathing down their neck. And any hopes they might have had of beating Leeds to Luke Freeman could soon lie in tatters.

London News Online reported this week that Boro are preparing a new approach for the QPR playmaker after trying and failing to sign him last summer. They will face competition from Leeds, however, with talkSPORT claiming that Freeman caught their eye after capping a Man of the Match performance with the winning goal in their recent 1-0 defeat at Loftus Road.

But surely Leeds should be a more tempting destination for the former Arsenal youngster – and not just because Middlesbrough are in such awful form.

The much-maligned Pulis is famed and frequently lambasted for his defensive, pragmatic approach while Leeds counterpart Marcelo Bielsa plays arguably the most attractive and free-flowing football in the Championship.

It goes without saying that Leeds would be a better fit for a player with Freeman’s skillset.
