Luke Donald used social media to reach out to Anthony Kim after his remarkable win at LIV Golf Adelaide on Sunday.

It is only February, but it is hard to see another win coming close to this one anytime soon.

Kim started the final round five shots back from Jon Rahm and Bryson DeChambeau, who seemed set for a head-to-head battle at The Grange.

But the story took a different turn. DeChambeau could not keep up his form, Rahm never found his rhythm, and Kim put together the best round of what is now being called his second career.

The 40-year-old carded a nine-under round, and once he hit the green on 18, there was no doubt that the American was about to secure his first professional win in nearly 16 years.

Of course, most of that time was spent away from the sport entirely. It is hard to find many stories more remarkable than his return.

One of those who reached out to congratulate him was Luke Donald.

“Way to go AK!” he began by saying.

“Redemption stories always resonate. From being one of the most talented players in the world, to disappearing from the game, to putting in the work to get yourself back into the winner’s circle – that takes something special.

“We all fail at times. Not everyone has the courage to come back, face it, and rebuild. That takes real strength. Congrats, AK,” Donald concluded.

Anthony Kim’s incredible finish and a look at what makes it so special

The sheer volume of impressive elements in Kim’s display could occupy an entire day’s listing.

The switch to 72 holes was not supposed to play into his hands. He had only got back into LIV after being relegated the year before, earning his spot by finishing third in January’s Promotions Event.

Kim was so steady over the last two rounds, which is probably what stood out most. He did not drop a single shot across the final 28 holes of the tournament.

This could be just the beginning of what turns out to be a remarkable second act for Kim in professional golf.
