The youngster has been prolific for Newcastle at U23 level this season.
Goals have certainly been very difficult to come by for Newcastle United this season as no player has scored more than twice for the club across all competitions.
Although Dwight Gayle has been impressive of late with goals away to Manchester United and Chelsea, Newcastle’s other attacking options aren’t exactly inspiring, with Joselu having struggled, while Aleksandar Mitrovic remains out of favour.
At U23 level, however, Newcastle have a player who is finding the net with regularity in Luke Charman.
The 19-year-old is most effective when deployed as a centre-forward but is also capable of operating out wide or as an attacking midfielder if required and he has made quite an impact this campaign, scoring five goals in eight Premier League 2 fixtures.
Charman impressed again last night as he hit a brace in Newcastle U23s’ 2-1 victory away to their Colchester United counterparts in the Premier League Cup.
Strong physically, Charman is also quick and, on the evidence of the performances that he has produced at U23 level, is certainly worthy of at least making the bench for Newcastle in some Premier League games.
Newcastle may well look to bring in a new striker when the transfer window re-opens in January but until then Charman could be a useful secret weapon for Rafael Benitez’s side if given the chance.
