Luke Ayling has posted a five-word tweet after Kalvin Phillips reacted to his display for England against San Marino last night.

The Leeds No.23 played 90 minutes for the Three Lions as they swatted San Marino aside by a 5-0 scoreline.

After Phillips tweeted that there’s no better feeling than playing for England – apart from playing for Leeds, of course – Ayling responded with a heartfelt comment.

You can see what the 29-year-old tweeted below.

In our view, Ayling’s own England call-up can’t be too far away.

The former Bristol City man has excelled in the Premier League this season, starting all 29 games under Marcelo Bielsa.

As WhoScored shows, he’s averaged an impressive 2.7 tackles per game, as well as two clearances every 90 minutes.

Ayling has also shown his quality going forward.

WhoScored reveals that he registers 1.2 dribbles per game, and is also fouled 1.4 times in every Premier League game this season.

Unfortunately for him, Gareth Southgate has a wealth of options at right-back.

England can call upon Trent Alexander-Arnold, Reece James, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Kieran Trippier and Tariq Lamptey, all of whom are quality players.

However, Ayling can also play at centre-back, so that could be a potential option for Southgate to explore.

All the Leeds man can do is keep his head down and continue working hard, as he always tends to do.
