Leeds United defender Luke Ayling has joked on Instagram by asking what his odds would be for him to win the Championship top scorer award next season – after his second pre-season goal on Sunday.

Ayling, 26, scored against League One side Southend United on Sunday afternoon at Roots Hall, as he helped the Whites draw 1-1 against Chris Powell’s side.

Southend had put themselves in front as they dominated from set-pieces, as defender Harry Lennon headed home a corner after 20 minutes, only for Ayling to combine with Forshaw before curling home an effort from 20 yards.

Former Bristol City and Arsenal defender Ayling posted on Instagram after scoring his second goal of pre-season, sarcastically asking fans what the odds would be in becoming the top scorer of England’s second tier.

Ayling has already scored this summer, finding the back of the net in Marcelo Bielsa’s first game as manager against cash rich League Two side Forest Green Rovers – latching onto Kemar Roofe’s pass to curl home with his left foot.

Leeds are next in action against Roofe’s former side Oxford United on Tuesday night, before facing feeder club Guiseley and Spanish outfit Las Palmas before the club’s first league game of the season against Stoke City on August 5.
