Leeds United may be without Ayling for the rest of 2018.

Luke Ayling of Leeds United reacts during the Sky Bet Championship match between Sheffield Wednesday v Leeds United at Hillsborough Stadium on September 28, 2018 in Sheffield, England.

With Lewie Coyle loaned out and Gaetano Berardi injured, Luke Ayling’s two-month absence should have presented Bryce Hosannah with a gift-wrapped opportunity. Hosannah was one of the success stories of Leeds United’s 2017 academy recruitment drive, impressing after being released by Crystal Palace to earn a new two-year contract in May of this year.

But despite making his long-awaited comeback from injury at the start of October, the right-back has not been involved in any of Leeds’ subsequent Under-23s fixtures.

An Instagram post the following week showed Hosannah wearing a protective boot on his right foot, while a caption read: “Headloss central”.

But there has been no official word since from either the player or Leeds confirming another injury lay-off.

With the chances slim of Leeds facing a situation as grave as this again in Hosannah’s position, now would be a better time than ever to make an unexpected recovery.

If not, then Hosannah could find the baton passed to one of Jamie Shackleton or Robbie Gotts instead.
