Leeds United defender Luke Ayling is set to be out for the rest of the season after undergoing surgery.
Luke Ayling has taken to Twitter to thank fans for their messages of support after Leeds confirmed on their official website on Wednesday that the right-back will miss the rest of the season due to an ankle injury.
Ayling limped off during the early stages of the Whites’ goalless draw with Nottingham Forest on New Year’s Day and it did not immediately appear to most that the problem was going to be anything particularly serious.
However, Leeds have now confirmed on their official website that the former Bristol City ace will now be out for the rest of the season after the problem required surgery.
The news will undoubtedly be a massive blow for the Whites’ promotion hopes. Thomas Christiansen’s side are currently sixth in the Championship but are within touching distance for the three teams immediately below them in the table, while many of the sides in the bottom-half of the division will have their sights set on Leeds if they can put together an almost flawless run during the final 20 games.
Ayling has been a key man during his time at Elland Road, arguably establishing himself as one of the first names on the teamsheet even when he has not been at his best.
And after the announcement was made, Ayling took to social media to thank fans and express a determination to get back playing sooner than he is currently scheduled to.
