Everton should be paying close attention to Anderlecht’s clash with Celtic on Wednesday.

Celtic return to Champions League action this week as they travel to Belgium to take on Anderlecht – and Everton should be paying close attention to the game.

The Bhoys beat Rangers 2-0 in the Scottish Premiership on Saturday afternoon, but must now look to bounce back from their last Champions League game; the 5-0 home defeat to Paris Saint-Germain.

Few expect Anderlecht or Celtic to make it through a group also containing PSG and Bayern Munich, but Wednesday’s clash may be a good opportunity for teams to scout potential transfer targets.

One team who should be paying close attention to the game is Everton, who could not only view rumoured targets, but also watch one of their loaned-out starlets.

Starting with the latter, Nigerian winger Henry Onyekuru joined Everton from KAS Eupen over the summer after scoring 24 times last summer, but had to be loaned back to Belgium with Anderlecht due to work permit issues.

The pacey wide man can now show Everton how he is progressing with Anderlecht, with the Toffees no doubt watching him intently ahead of next season, when he should be able to return to Goodison Park.

When it comes to potential signings, there are players on both sides who Everton should be looking at, with The Sun reporting over the summer that the Toffees failed with a £15million bid for midfielder Leander Dendoncker.

The Mirror also claimed that Everton wanted 30-goal hitman Lukasz Teodorczyk, and with Everton needing a centre forward, the Polish international should be watched again on Wednesday.

With The Scottish Sun also reporting that Everton had viewed Celtic hitman Moussa Dembele as a potential replacement for Romelu Lukaku, and whilst the Frenchman may only be a substitute against Anderlecht, the game gives Everton a chance to see him on the European stage.

At least four players in this game should be of major interest to Everton, and the Toffees should be viewing Wednesday’s clash with great interest ahead of the January transfer window.
