Wolfsburg striker Lukas Nmecha has admitted he would ‘very much like to work with Vincent Kompany again’ in quotes which could present an opportunity to Championship leaders Burnley.
With the Clarets pretty much a Premier League team already for all intents and purposes – 16 points clear of third place and potentially just two games away from promotion – focus will soon turn to the summer as Burnley look to ensure that their return to the top-flight is more than a mere flying visit.
Nathan Tella is the only member of Kompany’s squad to hit double figures in the league this season. Burnley’s 17-goal top scorer is only on loan from Southampton, however, meaning a replacement may be required.

Kompany, The Sun say, is a big fan of Coventry City’s Viktor Gyokeres. The powerhouse Swede may be beyond Burnley’s reach at a rumoured £25 million, however, while a whole host of top-flight clubs are already expressing an interest.
Could Burnley target former Manchester City striker Lukas Nmecha?
Nmecha, then, may be a viable alternative.
Especially after the seven-time Germany international, who represented England at U21 level, admitted that he would relish a reunion with a coach under whom he played the best football of his career, scoring 21 goals in 41 games for Anderlecht in 2020/21.
“I have many good memories of my stay at Anderlecht,” Nmecha tells Le Soir, via Voetbal Nieuws. “I would also very much like to work with Vincent Kompany again. He taught me a lot.”
Nmecha, who rose through the ranks at Manchester City, earns a living in the Bundesliga these days. The 24-year-old joined Wolfsburg in an £11 million deal during the summer of 2021. Following an impressive debut season, however, Nmecha has found goals and starts harder to come by this term, a series of injury issues restricting his influence under former Bayern Munich and Monaco coach Niko Kovac.
The chance to kick-start his career under Kompany at Burnley, in the Premier League no less, may be an opportunity Nmecha would grasp.
“He works hard for the team,” Kompany told HLN during that prolific Anderlecht stint.
“Of course, he still has room for improvement. But actually he is already a quite complete striker. He does not have any noticeable weaknesses. At the moment he is already one of the best strikers in Belgium.
“In time, he will be a striker for one of the top European clubs.”
