Chelsea have been linked with a move for Everton stirker Romelu Lukaku, as well as a move for Real Madrid striker Alvaro Morata.

According to a report from The Sun, Chelsea are making a new striker their top priority this summer, and are currently lining up Everton forward Romelu Lukaku and Real Madrid striker Alvaro Morata as potential targets. Everton’s Lukaku would be set to return to Chelsea, the club he left for Everton back in 2014, whereas Morata might be tempted to link up with his former boss again, after playing under Conte at Juventus.
The report suggests the Blues would be willing to spend up to £70 million on a new forward, but are struggling to agree on which striker to make their top target. Both Lukaku and Morata are two of the most exciting young forwards in European football: but who should Chelsea make a priority?
The most obvious choice initially would appear to be the Everton striker, Lukaku. After departing Chelsea in 2014 for the chance of regular football, Lukaku has scored an impressive 83 goals in 157 appearances for the Toffees, including 21 goals during the current campaign, making him the top scorer in the Premier League. Strong, pacey and incredibly skillful for a forward of his size, Chelsea’s decision to sell Lukaku still has many Chelsea fans scratching their heads, and many would be chomping at the bit to see the big Belgian back at Stamford Bridge.

But the ability of Spanish forward Alvaro Morata shouldn’t be disregarded. During his time at Juventus, Morata transformed into one of the most deadly young forwards in Europe, earning plaudits not just for his finishing but his ability to link up play for the Turin club’s other talented forwards. After 27 goals in 93 appearances for Juventus, his former club Real Madrid exercised an option to re-buy the forward, and since returning to the Spanish club the striker has scored 13 goals in 34 appearances: an impressive feat, seeing as the forward is still playing second-fiddle to French forward Karim Benzema.

So who should Chelsea make a priority? On goalscoring record alone, the clear choice appears to be Everton striker Lukaku. However, with the club already having had the Belgian on their books, perhaps Antonio Conte will decide to move for an equally exciting youngster, with no baggage of a previous spell at the club to weigh him down.
