Everton striker Romelu Lukaku has told Sky Sports that he did not discuss his future with manager Ronald Koeman this summer.
The striker was widely expected to depart Goodison Park in the summer transfer window after he scored 25 goals in all competitions last season.
Indeed, he appeared to be keen on moving on too, as both he and his agent Mino Raiola openly discussed his desire to play Champions League football on more than one occasion.
A move did not materialise though as the Blues refused to sell, setting a £75 million price tag on his head to ward off interest.
There had been suggestions that Koeman had played some part in him staying, but Lukaku says they never talked about the situation.
“Me and him (Koeman) didn’t talk too much about the situation,” he told Sky Sports.
“He was in contact with my agent throughout the period. I just focused on my football. For me personally, I just want to do my best for the team.”
The Belgian forward has also insisted that that speculation about his future has not affected his form.
He is going through a major goal drought for the Toffees at present, having gone 13 games without a goal, the longest barren spell of his career so far.
Some have suggested that the talk of him moving, and the failure to do so, has distracted him, but he insists that is not the case.
“Not at all. I left it all to my agent, he dealt with it,” he answered when asked.
“I just went on holiday and when I came back the last game before the season started I had an injury. It kept me out for a long time. I couldn’t do anything with it. As soon as I’m fit the goals will come for sure.”
