Luka Modric joined Real Madrid from Tottenham Hotspur in the summer of 2012.

Modric joined Tottenham from Dinamo Zagreb in 2008 for a transfer fee reported by The Telegraph to be worth £15.8 million.
The Croatia international midfielder quickly established himself as a key player for Spurs and one of the best in the Premier League.
Madrid came calling and snapped up Modric in the summer of 2012 for a transfer fee reported by BBC Sport to be worth £30 million.

The 32-year-old did not make a great start to life at the Santiago Bernabeu, but the midfielder is now a key figure for Zinedine Zidane’s side.
During his time at Madrid so far, Modric has won La Liga once and the Copa del Rey once, and the Champions League thrice.
Modric will come up against his former club Tottenham this evening when Madrid take on the North London outfit in the Champions League at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Ahead of the match, the former Dinamo Zagreb star has explained his deicision to leave Tottenham for Madrid in the summer of 2012.
“I had grown as much as possible after four seasons at Tottenham and I needed new challenges,” Modric told The Guardian.
“Real were the ideal club for me. When I knew they were interested, I couldn’t think about anything else. Signing for this club helped me move up to the next level.”
