Luka Modric is excited to face Tottenham Hotspur in the Champions League with Real Madrid.
Tottenham Hotspur were handed a tough Champions League group in Thursday’s draw, drawn against Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund.
APOEL complete the group, but with only two qualification spots available for the knockout rounds, Spurs will have to be at their very best.
The most fascinating element of the draw sees former Tottenham stars Luka Modric and Gareth Bale return to North London with Real Madrid.
The duo have won three Champions League titles each in recent years, and Modric has spoken out on his excitement at taking on Spurs.
Speaking to TMW radio, Modric spoke about Real Madrid’s chances and his reaction to the draw.
He said: “We’ve been challenged over the last three or four years (by Dortmund, it’s a complicated rival, and then there’s Tottenham, that’s doing well, I’m happy to play against my former team at a top stadium.
“Not even APOEL is easy to take on, they will not be easy at home, but we are Real Madrid and we are favourites.”
Spurs will play their home games at Wembley, and hope for better fortunes than last season when they struggled against Monaco and Bayer Leverkusen, beating CSKA Moscow in a dead rubber.
Modric is denied the chance to return to his former stadium so playing at Wembley will be different for him, although not entirely new.
He lost with Spurs there in the 2009 League Cup final, and has mixed record with Croatia there, beating the Three Lions 3-2 in 2007, and losing 5-1 a year later.
