Newcastle United have reportedly scouted Luka Jovic in the last year, and the Magpies fans may be hoping that he remains on Rafa Benitez’s radar.

It is already appearing that January is going to be an absolutely crucial month for Newcastle United, with Rafa Benitez’s men still awaiting their first Premier League win of the campaign.
After a number of underwhelming windows in recent years, the Toon Army would be forgiven for fearing however, that Benitez will not get the resources he needs to turn the current side into a team that can drag itself away from trouble.
But that is clearly not stopping Benitez from eyeing some potential moves that would be seriously exciting. The Chronicle has suggested that signing a striker in the winter window is the top priority.
The same report claims that Newcastle have scouted Luka Jovic this year. It is important to note that the report does not suggest whether Jovic, or fellow Benitez target Sebastian Haller, remains on the Magpies’ radar, but it would undoubtedly be an incredible piece of business for Newcastle if they did move for Jovic in January and managed to get something done.
Jovic is currently enjoying one of the most impressive runs of form of any striker in Europe this season. The 20-year-old has scored seven goals in seven Bundesliga appearances this term.

Those stats become all the more remarkable when you consider that he has only started four times in the league, with his three other appearances coming from the bench.
Jovic hit the headlines earlier this month when he scored five goals in one game as Eintracht Frankfurt thrashed Fortuna Dusseldorf 7-1 in the top flight.

With that kind of record, Newcastle fans will probably already be writing off any chance of a potential January deal anyway. But when you consider that Calciomercato recently reported that both Spurs and Chelsea were keen on Serbia international, it certainly does appear that the Magpies stand little chance.
Benitez clearly faces a huge uphill trying to get something done for Jovic – if he does remain interested – but there can be little doubt that there may be few better statements that the Magpies could make in January than to catch everyone off guard and bring Jovic to St James’ Park.
