The Lakers’ star thanked his teammate for stepping in during the scuffle and vowed to cover the cost of Hayes’ technical fine.

The Los Angeles Lakers made light work of the Clippers in their latest meeting, cruising to a 135–118 victory behind a dominant 43-point performance from Luka Doncic. But the fourth quarter delivered more than highlight plays — it sparked a confrontation that underscored the Lakers’ growing chemistry.

With under four minutes remaining, Clippers guard Kris Dunn got physical with Doncic, leading to a brief on-court scuffle that saw Lakers big man Jaxson Hayes rush in to defend his teammate. Dunn was ejected, Hayes picked up a technical foul, and Doncic responded after the game with a gesture that quickly went viral.

Doncic shows appreciation: “I’ll pay his fine for sure”

Speaking post-game, Doncic praised Hayes for stepping in and made it clear he intends to cover the cost of his teammate’s technical.

“Everybody got each other’s back on this team,” Doncic said. “I appreciate him, and I’ll pay his fine for sure.”

The moment may have been brief, but it further highlighted the unity behind the Lakers’ impressive 13–4 record and their position atop NBA Cup Group B. With a revamped roster and strong early-season cohesion, the Lakers look like one of the league’s most connected squads.

Doncic and Dunn’s rivalry adds fire to the matchup

The scuffle was not an isolated incident between the two guards. Doncic and Dunn already had history dating back to the 2023–24 season, when Dunn — then with the Jazz — pointed a finger in Doncic’s face during a heated exchange. Doncic responded with laughter, and both were hit with double technicals.

Wednesday’s flare-up shows their rivalry is very much alive, and Lakers–Clippers matchups could feature more fireworks whenever the two cross paths.

For now, the Lakers walk away with the win, stronger chemistry and, thanks to Doncic, one less bill for Jaxson Hayes to worry about.
