Konstantinos Tsimikas has earned praise on Instagram from Luis Garcia, Xherdan Shaqiri and Thiago after he picked up the man-of-the-match award for his two assists in Liverpool’s 3-3 draw with Benfica on Wednesday night.
Tsimikas, 25, was handed just his 28th senior Liverpool appearance for the Reds since joining the club for £11million (ESPN) – his 21st this season. He took his tally of assists to six this season, creating two of Liverpool’s three.
The first was from a corner, Ibrahima Konate headed home his second-ever Liverpool goal. Diogo Jota laid on the assist for Firmino’s first, before the Greece-Brazil connection saw Firmino volley home a Tsimikas free-kick.
Liverpool were excellent in the final third but poor defensively, the likes of Darwin Nunez and Roman Yaremchuk taking advantage to score late on and level the scoreline on the night to 3-3. Tsimikas got man of the match.
The Liverpool defender is renowned for his rock-solid attitude and happy personality – and that is shown in his post, hashtagging – once again – Greek Scouser. Another reminder to Jurgen Klopp, perhaps.
What did Shaqiri, Thiago and Garcia say to Liverpool ace Tsimikas?
If Liverpool did not boast arguably the best left-back in world football, then Tsimikas might find himself a regular starter for Liverpool. Just 28 games for the Reds after two years might see the defender consider a move.
But he seems perfectly happy being back-up and with more than 20 appearances a season – it is not as if he is being ignored. Klopp is juggling his squad well. Garcia, Thiago, Adrian and Shaqiri praised Tsimikas.
