Liverpool have completed a big-money deal to sign Virgil van Dijk.
Virgil van Dijk will become a Liverpool player when the January transfer window opens.
Liverpool released a statement via their official website on Wednesday to confirm the move, with The Telegraph revealing the fee to be a world-record £75 million for a defender.
Signing the 26-year-old will give the Reds a bit of much-needed solidity in defence and the former Southampton centre-back is eligible to compete in the Champions League this season.
Liverpool fans are delighted with the move, having come so close to signing him during the summer, and it seems that Anfield legends Luis Garcia and Ian Rush are also thrilled.
The former Celtic stalwart will certainly be an automatic starter for Liverpool, but it remains to be seen who Jurgen Klopp axes.
Dejan Lovren and Ragnar Klavan have been regular centre-back partners under Klopp in recent months, though Lovren was replaced with Trent Alexander-Arnold for the 5-0 win over Swansea City on Boxing Day, in which the 19-year-old scored his first goal at Anfield.
Meanwhile, the German manager also has the luxury of playing Joe Gomez in central defence.
Either way, the arrival of Van Dijk is guaranteed to strengthen Liverpool’s often-leaky defence and it should be a cracking move, despite the fee.
