Tottenham Hotspur suffered a narrow defeat away at Burnley in the Premier League over the weekend.
Luis Garcia has honestly stated that Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino simply couldn’t control himself after his side’s 2-1 defeat at Burnley over the weekend.
After the game had concluded, Pochettino confronted referee Mike Dean because he was unhappy with some of the officiating on the day, including the build-up to the Claret’s first goal.
The officials wrongly awarded Sean Dyche’s side a corner with striker Chris Wood heading in the opening goal moments later to the anger of Pochettino on the touchline.
Speaking to Goals on Sunday on Sky Sports Premier League (25/02/2019 at 12:45 pm), former Liverpool player Garcia offered his brutally honest thoughts on Pochettino and the ‘pressure’ he was under at the time.
“It’s a lot of pressure,” Garcia told Sky Sports PL. “It’s a moment that you leave points over there, maybe you can grab at least one [and you don’t] then you can’t control yourself.
“Even though Pochettino isn’t those kinds of managers who gets involved in places and saying bad things in press conferences. But there is a moment where you click and you can’t control yourself. I don’t know if the referee said something or not.”
Many supporters were left surprised by Pochettino’s reaction because he normally comes across as a calm individual regardless of the situation.
Prior to the clash at Turf Moor, they were five points behind the Premier League’s top two and had a brilliant opportunity to close the gap, with Manchester City in Carabao Cup final action and Liverpool playing Manchester United.
Nonetheless, the Reds recorded a goalless draw at Old Trafford to move top of the table and they are six points ahead of Spurs and one point ahead of second-placed City.
Pochettino’s side will now travel to Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night before they host north London rivals Arsenal at Wembley at the weekend.
