During the 1-0 win over West Ham, Luis Diaz got the Liverpool fans up off their seats at Anfield with a mesmeric surge forward.
The £37.5m man drove up the pitch as the Anfield faithful roared him on, and it seemed like the Colombian was about to produce something special.
In the end, all Diaz got to show for his dribble was a freekick on the edge of the box, which, in all honesty, was a disappointing outcome.
The Reds picked up the three points despite this wasted opportunity, although that one moment must act as a warning for Diaz.
Luis Diaz must learn to produce at Liverpool
Before any Liverpool fans get their pitchforks out, we must stress that we love watching Diaz play – he is everything a supporter wants to see in a forward.
The South American is brave, daring and boasts incredible dribbling skills, which have immediately made him one of the most exciting players in the Premier League.
However, Diaz will quickly become very unpopular at Liverpool if he doesn’t learn when to release the ball.
As the footage above shows, Mohamed Salah waved his arms around in frustration after Diaz won the freekick against West Ham.
The Egyptian was open for a through ball, which would’ve put him in on goal, but Diaz decided to continue dribbling and take on Kurt Zouma.
Mohamed Salah and others may become tired of Luis Diaz
It’s still early days for Diaz at Liverpool, and as he adapts to a new environment, we can forgive him for a few dodgy pieces of decision making.
However, if this continues, we’re certain that Salah, Jürgen Klopp and others will get tired of his obsession with dribbling.
For example, had West Ham equalised at Anfield – or gone on to win – many would point to that moment where Diaz failed to supply Salah as a key incident.
When up against a side as consistent as Manchester City in the title race, Liverpool have to be ruthless and kill opponents off.
Hopefully, Klopp can coach Diaz to release the ball at the right time, while ensuring he doesn’t hinder his admirable dribbling skills as a result.
