Liverpool take on Inter Milan in the Champions League tonight – and Chris Sutton thinks Luis Diaz could be unleashed on the Italian side.
The Reds head to the San Siro tonight in search of a positive first leg result in their round of 16 clash.
Liverpool managed to win at the San Siro in December, beating Inter’s city rivals AC Milan 2-1 in the group stage.
A repeat result tonight would be great for Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp, who faces some selection dilemmas tonight.
They mostly come in the final third, where Klopp now has a number of quality options to utilise.
Against Burnley on Sunday, it was Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane given the nod in attack.
That meant Diogo Jota and Luis Diaz sitting on the bench, possibly being saved for the Champions League clash with Sutton.
Now, pundit Sutton has told the Daily Mail that he thinks Diaz could be ‘let loose’ on Inter having been rested against Burnley.
Sutton talked up Liverpool’s attacking options, believing players like Diaz will just be far too much for Inter to deal with over two legs.
Bringing Diaz back into the side will be very tempting for Klopp, especially after encouraging displays against Cardiff City and Leicester City.
The Colombian has already shown exactly why Liverpool bought him. Quick, dangerous in the final third and a great presser, Diaz fits the Liverpool bill perfectly.
Starting Diaz tonight though could be something of a risk as it would mean leaving out another quality attacker.
Diaz is best down the left flank, which is where Sadio Mane plays. Leaving Mane on the bench in a huge game would be a bold call from Klopp, but maybe a sign of more rotation to come for the Senegal star.
It’s a nice problem to have for Klopp; five superb attacking players vying for three spots.
Sutton may well be right in the notion that Diaz is being saved for this game, but it may take a bold and brave decision from Klopp to start him at Mane’s expense.
