Claudio Ranieri is on Leeds United’s list of possible candidates.

ESPN reported last week that Claudio Ranieri is under consideration to become Leeds United manager.
Ranieri is out of work after being fired by Leicester City earlier this year, and Leeds are reported to be trying to tempt him to fill their vacancy.
It would be a step down for Ranieri, having improbably led Leicester to win the Premier League title in 2015/16, but it is not the first time he has been connected with the Leeds job.
After being sacked by Monaco in 2014, Ranieri was reported by The Express to be in the running to land the Leeds job, vacated at the time by Brian McDermott.

As a high profile Italian manager, it makes sense that successive owners Massimo Cellino and now Andrea Radrizzani will have investigated the possibility of bringing him on board.
Ranieri’s decision to snub Cellino’s advances was a shrewd one, given the owner’s well earned reputation as a hire and fire owner.
After the Monaco job, Ranieri ended up taking the Greece international role, but this ended so disastrously he might have been better off with a short stint at Elland Road.

What happened next was a season which stunned the sporting world, as Ranieri wrote his name into football folklore by leading Leicester City to the Premier League title.
That is not the only title Ranieri has won as a manager, but the others have all come in the second tier.
Ranieri led Monaco to the Ligue 2 title in 2013, and won Serie B with Fiorentina all the way back in 1994, as well as earning promotion from Serie B with Cagliari in 1990.
This would stand him in good stead for a promotion challenge at Leeds, but its doubtful he has the appetite to drop down a division after his Premier League success, and has already turned down their advances once three years ago – with his career better for it.
