Neil Lennon has described Jamal Lascelles of Newcastle United as the ‘luckiest man at St James’s Park’ this afternoon.
The Magpies were held to a 1-1 draw by Watford on Tyneside today.
Allan Saint-Maximin drilled Newcastle into a 1-0 lead early in the second half but Joao Pedro rescued a point for the Hornets with an 88th-minute equaliser.
However, the hosts probably should’ve conceded earlier in the half when Moussa Sissoko, on his return to Newcastle, blazed wide following a silly error from Lascelles.
Lennon told BBC Radio 5 Live: “Jamal Lascelles is the luckiest man at St James’ Park, he’s made an absolute boo-boo, trying to play a square pass and miskicked it.
“Moussa Sissoko has the whole goal to aim at and he misses. What an opportunity for Watford. All of a sudden there’s tension creeping into this game again.”
Nightmare
This genuinely isn’t a good result for Newcastle.
Eddie Howe and the players applauded the supporters at full time but deep down the United manager will be worried.
At the time of Saint-Maximin’s goal, Newcastle were heading out of the bottom three but that’s where they remain now.
This was a relegation six-pointer and one point just isn’t enough for the North-East outfit you feel.

With the January window still open, Newcastle can still turn around their fortunes but truthfully, it’s looking ominous.
