Becchio was asked by a fan to pick his all-time Leeds XI since the club’s relegation to the Championship in 2004.
Luciano Becchio has named Pontus Jansson and Luke Ayling in his all-time Football League Leeds XI on Instagram, along with himself and Jermaine Beckford up front.
Leeds were relegated way back in 2004 from the Premiership, and have remained in the Championship other than three years in League One – which saw the Whites finally overcome their financial difficulties.
Marcelo Bielsa’s side are showing the kind of promise to end that 14-year wait to return to the top flight of English football, as they remain at the top of the Championship table after six league matches.
Argentine striker Becchio, who remains a favourite among Elland Road supporters, was asked by a Leeds fan on Instagram to pick his best Leeds side including players that have played for the Whites since their relegation in 2004.
He responded with Rob Green in goal, a back four of Ayling, Jansson, Patrick Kisnorbo and Charlie Taylor, a midfield four of Max Gradel, Jonny Howson, Lewis Cook and Robert Snodgrass, and named himself alongside Beckford up front.
Now 34, target man Becchio turned out 216 times for Leeds and scored almost one goal every two games – finding the back of the net 86 times8 as well as laying on 20 assists.
Gradel, Howson and Snodgrass were all a part of one of the most promising Leeds sides since the club’s relegation, while Taylor and Cook have been sold for big money to Premier League sides Burnley and Bournemouth.
Goalkeeper Green has moved to Chelsea as a reserve goalkeeper, while rock-solid defender Kisnorbo has retired and is currently coaching at Melbourne City’s youth side. Beckford remains in the game with League Two side Bury.
