Kevin Campbell has said on Highbury Squad that Arsenal will not sell Lucas Torreira.
The former Arsenal striker believes that the Gunners will keep the 25-year-old midfielder even though he wants to leave.
Lucas Torreira’s situation
The Uruguay international midfielder spent the 2020-21 season on loan at Atletico Madrid.
Spanish champions Atletico have decided not to make the loan deal permanent.
As quoted in The Sun in April, the former Sampdoria star said that he wants to move to Boca Juniors in Argentina.
The 25-year-old wants to go back to South America following the passing away of his mother from coronavirus, as reported by The Sun.
Kevin Campbell’s take
Campbell said about Torreira on Highbury Squad: “He is back, he is going to be back. He understands the situation. He knows he is contracted to Arsenal.
“But the fact of the matter is it is business. It’s business. If you have paid 50 grand for a motor and somebody wants to off you for 5 grand, you have got to put sentiment aside, haven’t you? Because it comes down to a business transaction.”
Arsenal in potential dilemma
Torreira wants to go back to South America due to personal reasons.
You would like to think that Arsenal would respect that.
Arsenal are a big club who always handle such situations delicately and professionally.
However, the problem is that from a business perspective, the North London club may not be willing to just let Torreira go without a decent transfer fee.
ESPN reported in April that Arsenal are ready to sell the Uruguayan, but they want at least £15 million.
Would Boca be willing to, or indeed afford to, pay that sum?
Perhaps a loan deal could be arranged.
But, again, would Boca be willing to (or afford to) pay the reported £75,000-a-week salary that the 25-year-old is on?
