Leeds United returned to the top of the Championship table this afternoon as they beat Wigan Athletic 2-1 at the DW Stadium.

The Whites saw Sheffield United lose on Saturday afternoon, meaning that whilst Norwich City went top of the Championship table, Leeds knew that a win would take them top.

It didn’t start so well against the Latics though, as Reece James whipped home a superb free kick inside the first six minutes of the game.

However, Leeds hit back just three minutes later as Mateusz Klich burst into the box before pulling the ball across goal for Pablo Hernandez to turn home from close range.

Leeds grabbed the winner shortly after the break, and it came in bizarre circumstances as a mix-up between Christian Walton and Cedric Kipre allowed Kemar Roofe to tap into an empty net.

Leeds held on for the win and go back to the Championship table, with Marcelo Bielsa’s side getting back to winning ways after last weekend’s 1-1 draw with Nottingham Forest.

After the game, Leeds legend Lucas Radebe took to Twitter to react, praising Bielsa’s men for a ‘great, good performance’ as well as a great result on their trip to Greater Manchester.
