West Ham United have confirmed that striker Lucas Perez has left the club, returning to Spain in order to join Alaves for an undisclosed fee.

The Hammers signed Perez in a bargain deal from Arsenal last summer, hoping that he could rediscover some of the form that made him such a threat with Deportivo La Coruna.

Perez, 30, struggled for first-team football under Manuel Pellegrini though, starting just four Premier League games and six in all competitions.

The Spaniard notched six goals in all competitions, meaning that his record ended up being around one in three for West Ham – but that doesn’t really tell the story of his time at the club.

Perez often struggled in the West Ham attack, hence not starting much, and he’s now been handed a return to Spanish football with Alaves.

West Ham fans will be hoping for a more exciting striker to come in his place, and they may have seen Perez take to Twitter last night to react to his exit.

Perez notably felt that he didn’t receive enough playing time at West Ham, feeling he didn’t have the chance to show what he can do, but thanked his teammates as well as the Hammers fans and staff for their support in his year at the club.
