Lucas Perez is sure that the World Cup winner will not make a return to Los Blancos.
Lucas Perez has told Onda Cero that Mesut Ozil will remain at Arsenal for the foreseeable football as they are a “big club.”
The World Cup winner has been in mesmerising form as of late for the Gunners this season and has managed to find the back of the net on six occasions already.
That form has sparked talk that he could become a target for his former club Real, but Perez is certain that the German star will remain at the Emirates Stadium.
“No, I don’t think Ozil wants to return to Spain,” he told Spanish radio station Onda Cero.
“You never know: Real Madrid is a big club –- but so is Arsenal.”
The Spaniard himself only made a move to the Emirates this Summer from La Liga side Deportivo La Coruna but has failed to make any real impression yet.
He was brought in as reinforcement for Olivier Giroud and Theo Walcott, but with the resurgence of the latter and the emergence of Alexis Sanchez as a top-class centre-forward, Perez’s appearances have been limited.
So far this season the 28-year-old has only managed 92 minutes of Premier League action in what as been a frustrating start to his Emirates career.
And he admitted that he expected to have a greater role with more influence and responsibility at the club.
“When I first arrived here I expected to have more of a starring role,” he said. “The teammates that are playing in my position are doing a great job.
“We have won seven games in a row and, at the end of the day, the coach wants what is best for the team.”
