Lucas Perez could be a smart addition for West Ham United, due to his ability to cover in multiple positions.

The Sun claim that West Ham are set to sign Perez from Arsenal in the near future, as they close on another signing.

Perez can play out-wide or up-front, and that versatility could be key for Manuel Pellegrini’s side.

West Ham now have good cover in almost all of their forward positions, and that makes him a very smart addition to their squad.

Perez doesn’t look likely to start particularly regularly, given Pellegrini’s other more exciting options.

However, the 29-year-old has proven his ability in La Liga and even looked bright in spells for Arsenal, when given opportunities.

Perez can now compete with Marko Arnautovic and Javier Hernandez for a place up-top, and he should also push Andriy Yarmolenko for a starting spot on the right-wing.

And although Perez may not be the signing which has attracted the most attention at West Ham this summer, he could be one of the smarter additions that they have made.
