Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers reportedly wants to bring Liverpool’s Lucas to Glasgow this summer.
Latest Celtic transfer target Lucas Leiva is known to be a massive fan of Brendan Rodgers.
Celtic are reportedly trying to sign Lucas (Daily Record), with the Brazilian midfielder’s contract expiring.
Lucas will reportedly be allowed to leave Anfield on a free transfer at the end of the campaign, with Celtic keen to give him a new home.
And the fact that Rodgers is Celtic’s manager should give the Bhoys hope that a transfer could be completed.
Lucas spoke highly of Rodgers to the Daily Mail, soon after the Northern Irish boss was appointed at Liverpool, back in 2012.
He said: “On my first day back in Liverpool, he spoke with me and said I was in his plans.
“It gave me the confidence to progress slowly and I am really happy to have his support from the beginning.
“When a manager says great things about you, it always gives you extra confidence and motivation – but I was already motivated enough. I am at a big club and very happy to play for this club.
“He has been very important from the first day.”
Rodgers enjoyed some great times at Liverpool, but things started to turn against him during the 2014/15 campaign.
Rodgers was put under a lot of pressure, as the Reds struggled, but Lucas stuck up for him.
“We wanted to win for the manager,” Lucas said.
“We know what has been said about him and think we showed we are a group of players behind him and trying to make everything right.”
Lucas has actually played fairly regularly for Liverpool this season, and would surely be a quality signing to kick of Celtic’s summer recruitment drive, if he was to join.
